Dear Diary Today is June 22nd, 1587 and white people have arrived here in Santa Cruz and their lips, tongues, and eyes are as swollen as can be. Why are they near the ‘evil water’? Don’t they know that, that water is ‘evil’? We natives know not to go near that water. Some people in our tribe actually drank that water, little children actually, the same thing happened. They couldn’t talk. The white people were talking kind of foolish, almost like they couldn’t talk at all. We know that no one should go near that water. Didn’t these white people know too?
